We strongly advise that you seek the advise of an experienced broker when buying your laser tattoo removal as we often hear stories where clients have bought policies elsewhere and aren't covered correctly. Public liability insurance DOES NOT include the treatments and procedures you perform - these are different types of cover.

These are some of the covers you will need:
Public liability
This covers liability at law for causing injury to other people (not necessarily clients/clients) for damage to them or their property, provided that no treatment or advice was the reason for the incident.

Products liability
This covers you for any defect in goods (e.g. medicines, cosmetics, beauty aids, or health aids) sold, supplied or demonstrated to your clients, which may cause injury or damage. Even if you did not manufacture the item concerned and innocently passed it on, under EU directive, the Consumer Protections Act etc., you will still be initially held liable.

Employers' liability
This covers you for injuries sustained by any employees or work experience assistants while working for you or on your premises, and is legally required. The certificate must be displayed. (Your must also follow the national laws on Health and Safety in the workplace.) This cover is available now under the package policy.

Professional indemnity
Indemnifies (i.e. protects) the practitioner against any allegations of loss arising from the conduct of his/her occupation, whether treating or not. This can cover financial loss due to inadequate or incorrect advice, consultancy work etc., and applies where injury has not been caused. Includes breaches of Duty of Care which come under the Law of Negligence or “Tort”.

Malpractice
Malpractice is where a practitioner has not performed with a reasonable degree of skill and care, resulting in possible injury or loss to the client. Medical Malpractice based in professional indemnity and responding to the policyholders legal liability arising out of any bodily injury, mental injury, illness, disease or death of any patient caused by any negligent act, error or omission committed by the insured in or about the conduct of the insured's occupation or business as stated in the schedule, or Good Samaritan Acts. Medical malpractice insurance, is in practice a hybrid of public liability insurance and professional indemnity insurance, responding to claims arising from both bodily injury, including metal and psychological damage, from both physical procedures and from advice, or indeed a combination of the two. Generally speaking a professional indemnity insurance policy will not respond to claims for bodily injury, and a public liability policy will not respond to claims arising from advice. Medical malpractice insurance bridges the gap between the two covers.

Treatment Risk Insurance
Provides protection against any claims made against you in respect of injury to your client or infection caused as a result of carrying out the treatments and the services you provide to them such as laser tattoo removal & cosmetic tattooing and body piercing. This stand alone specialist professional liability insurance provides treatment risk insurance cover for those who carry out tattooing, body piercing and other beauty related treatments. Cover indemnity ranges from £1,000,000 upwards and is provided in respect of claims made and reported to the insurers during the certificate period for work carried out after the inception of the policy. Cover can be purchased by the owner of the business and extends to include employed therapists. All self employed therapists should purchase their own individual treatment risk insurance policy that is transferable to any other studios they may work in. Self employed therapists should also have their own public liability policy that can be purchased as an extension to their treatment risk cover.
