Tradesmen & Contractors Insurance Information

We offer Tradesmen and Contractors Insurance including Employers & Public Liability, Design Indemnities, Tools, Contract Works, JCT extensions, Personal Accident & Legal Expenses quickly and at the best rates for you.

The correct level of cover is essential for any tradesman or contractor. Without this in place, a claim against you could end up putting you out of business or even worse, you could incur personal loss. Town & Country will come to visit you to assess your requirements and will find the right cover for you.

There are five main forms of cover you should be aware of as a tradesman or contractor:
Tools and Equipment (Contract Works)
Personal Accident
Very basic definitions of cover could be:

Public liability will cover any costs incurred from injury or illness caused to any member of the public that you, or one of your employees, are responsible for in the standard running of your business. This is becoming a more and more essential form as cover as the increasingly legally aware public are claiming more often for injury or illness that is not their fault. We have all seen the adverts calling for people to claim compensation for all types of things, and a single claim like this could potentially put you out of business if it is sufficiently large.

Since the "Employers' Liability (Compulsory Insurance) Act 1969" Employers Liability is required by law if you have any employees. This covers the same sort of thing as public liability, except it covers only individuals under your employ. We have an article on defining an employee under our download section and we would urge all prospective policyholders read this.

Personal Accident
It can be frustrating if an accident means you are unable to work, especially if that accident is your fault. Personal accident gives you cover for such a situation, bills and losses can mount up and without the correct cover this could put an end to the business you run. Personal Accident cover gives you the peace of mind that even if you are unable to work there will be an underwriter ready to put you back on your feet.

If you need to take on extra on just temporary staff to cover busy periods, we can look for an extension to provide for up to 50 man days in any one period of insurance, This extension wording and terms will differ between different insurers.

The amount of cover on tools can vary, and depends entirely on what you want to pay for.
